Finding the right level of abstraction is the key for any good implementation. Here are some of the fruits of my database design, abstraction library, and tool design work.

DotBase - Internationalization Database

DotBase is an ambitious database internationalization library that lets you store all or part your database as multilanguage fields. This can reduce the database schema size and the associated application code complexity of a multilanguage project by as much as 90%. Less code means less bugs and greater application flexibility.

CodeKit - Universal Code Description Lookup Table

CodeKit is an interface to a master code description lookup table that can hold every code set in a database project. CodeKit takes all of the programming work out of maintaining multiple database code definition sets and their descriptions.

Senior Database Architect for Wcities.com 2000 - 2003

Wcities authors reviews of restaurants, hotels and other businesses in 300 major cities around the world. Their content is translated into more than a dozen languages and is syndicated to web portals and wireless providers.

Completely redesigned their schema to easily accommodate keeping new kinds of data in any number of languages with no schema changes. Designed, wrote and documented all of their database access libraries. Reduced the schema and code complexity by 90%. Perl, C/C++, PHP, Ruby, MySQL, Linux.

Wrote an XML generation tool which reads each syndication customer's DTD and emits perfect highly complex XML with no per-customer coding.
